Coverage-related extensions

Coverage-related extensions

The following four extensions in the Orthogramic Metamodel provide a structured mechanism to define, evaluate, and manage the maturity of an organisation's business architecture across all domains. These are foundational to supporting strategic alignment, capability uplift, and enterprise transparency.

Summary of coverage extensions

Domain

Purpose

Domain

Purpose

CoverageExpectation

Defines the desired level of documentation or insight for a business architecture domain within an organisation or business unit. Used to set strategic or operational expectations across domains.

CoverageStatus

A derived, dynamic record of the actual coverage level achieved per domain and organisational unit. Used to assess performance against expectations.

CoverageTemplate

A reusable set of expectations tailored to industry sector and organisation size. Supports consistent planning and onboarding.

OrganizationGoal

Captures the strategic weight (importance) of each domain and defines tolerances for coverage gaps. Informs recommendations, weighting logic, and dashboards.

How they work together

These domains form a continuous loop:

  1. CoverageTemplate offers a starting point—templates aligned to sector and size.

  2. CoverageExpectation is then defined per domain, either manually or using a template.

  3. OrganizationGoal assigns weightings and tolerances to each domain based on strategic priority.

  4. CoverageStatus is regularly updated to reflect actual coverage, enabling analysis of gaps and trends.

This ecosystem enables the Metamodel to offer intelligent recommendations, track architectural maturity, and align documentation efforts with enterprise goals.
