Overview

Orthogramic Insights Digital Twin insights.orthogramic.com is an interactive visualization and analysis tool that enables real-time exploration of business architecture data. It integrates parsed information from documents into a structured business architecture model, covering all domains in the Orthogramic metamodel.

With Orthogramic Insights, users can:

  • Search the business architecture of the organization displayed.

  • Navigate a dynamic mindmap representing business architecture domains.

  • Examine detailed relationships between capabilities, value streams, strategy, policies, initiatives, information, stakeholders, and performance measures etc.

  • Engage with a contextual chat assistant to gain insights and recommendations based on the organization's business architecture data.

Orthogramic Insight features

  1. Business architecture mindmap on the left

  2. Insight panel with detailed business architecture data in the centre and

  3. Contextual chat on the right

Organization search

To display an organisation in the mindmap and insights panel, users can begin by initiating a search via contextual chat. Chat will guide the user by requesting additional information to help accurately identify the organisation.

The system uses the following classification fields to distinguish organisations:

  • Name

  • Country

  • State or territory (where applicable)

  • Type — including Government Departments, Major Statutory Authorities, Government-Owned Corporations, and Tribunals and Commissions

  • Primary activity — the main function or focus of the organisation

Business architecture mindmap

Function: The mindmap provides a hierarchical and interconnected visualization of business architecture domains, enabling users to:

  • Explore relationships across strategy, capabilities, value streams, policy, organization, information, initiatives, stakeholders, and performance.

  • Drill down into detailed dependencies between business architecture components.

  • Expand or collapse nodes to focus on specific domains or view the full business architecture landscape.

Example use cases:

  • Understanding how strategic objectives align with business capabilities.

  • Mapping value streams to supporting capabilities.

  • Identifying dependencies between stakeholders, initiatives, and policies.

Mindmap node metadata

When a user selects a node, its detailed metadata is displayed. Scroll up and down the full set of metadata.

When an item of a node’s metadata is clicked, it is added to the chat context and highlighted as shown below.

This detailed business domain data is added to the chat context and displayed in the chat for easy reference.

Example use cases:

  • Reviewing how policies influence strategy and initiatives.

  • Identifying performance metrics linked to value streams and capabilities.

  • Assessing organizational units responsible for executing strategic goals.

Contextual chat

Contextual chat and mindmap synchronisation

Orthogramic Chat now delivers a highly contextualised and interactive experience through seamless synchronisation with your organisation's mindmap. This integration ensures that your conversations are continually informed by relevant business architecture elements, and that the visual interface responds dynamically to the focus of the conversation.

How chat context is established

Orthogramic determines context based on your level of interaction with the mindmap. This structured approach allows the system to interpret your queries with increasing specificity:

  • No selection
If no domain, node, or metadata is selected, Orthogramic uses the entire organisational mindmap as the default context.

  • Domain selection
Selecting a domain (e.g. Capabilities, Initiatives) narrows the context to all entities within that domain across the organisation.

  • Node selection
Selecting a specific node (e.g. a particular Capability or Initiative) establishes that node as the focal point. The chat draws on its metadata and relationships to respond to queries.

  • Metadata selection
Selecting a specific metadata item (e.g. Purpose, Description, Owner) refines the context further. The response will prioritise this detail and its parent node above all else.

You may also add multiple node details to the context to explore more complex relationships or comparisons.

Two-way synchronisation between chat and mindmap

  • Mindmap → Chat
Selecting a node or metadata item in the mindmap immediately updates the context for the chat. This ensures that responses are tightly aligned to your current area of focus, using organisation-specific data to generate meaningful insights.

  • Chat → Mindmap
When you mention or inquire about a specific domain, node, or business architecture element in chat, the mindmap will automatically focus on the relevant node. If it is not already visible, the map will expand to bring it into view and highlight it, maintaining continuity across both interfaces.

This two-way synchronisation eliminates the need to repeatedly restate context, ensures relevance in all AI responses, and supports a more fluid, natural workflow for interpreting and exploring complex business models.

Example use cases

  • "Which capabilities support this value stream?"

  • "What initiatives align with this strategic objective?"

  • "How does this policy impact compliance for this capability?"

  • "Are there gaps in governance between these two related domains?"

These kinds of questions are now answered with precision, using your organisation’s actual architecture rather than generic assumptions.

Note on chat accuracy

While Orthogramic’s contextual chat delivers high relevance by leveraging structured domain data, there are limitations and errors can occur. See: Chat limitations and errors

How Orthogramic Insights works

Orthogramic Insights enables users to interactively explore the business architecture of an organisation by extracting structured domain data from uploaded documents.

The process begins when a user uploads business-relevant documents such as strategies, policies, or plans. These documents are automatically processed using the Orthogramic Metamodel, which interprets and structures their content across domains such as Capabilities, Strategy, Policy, Stakeholders, and more.

This structured data is presented in Orthogramic Insights as an interactive view, allowing users to navigate the relationships between domain entities, identify coverage gaps, and understand strategic alignment. For further analysis, the domain entities can be downloaded in a JSON format for reuse in other systems or artefacts.

The diagram below illustrates the end-to-end process:

Mindmap node interaction

Using the mindmap and chat is intuitive, however, this is how interacting with nodes works.

Nodes

Selecting a node

  • Moves the node centrally in the mindmap so it can be displayed with its metadata dropdown open

  • Opens its metadata dropdown

  • Turns the node yellow

  • Adds a pill for it to the chat input box and chat context

  • Only two nodes can be selected at the same time

  • If two nodes are selected and the user selects a third, the first selected one closes

  • If two nodes are added to the chat input box and the user selects a third, the first one is removed from the chat input box

De-selecting a node:

  • Closes the metadata dropdown

  • Moves the node back into its original position

  • Removes the yellow colour

  • Removes it from the chat input box and chat context

Highlighting a node from chat

  • Focuses the mind map on the node

  • Changes colour of the node to light yellow

  • The node remains highlighted until another node is highlighted from chat or until a new chat is started.

Node metadata

Selecting metadata

  • Selected node metadata attributes/elements are yellow

  • Only two node metadata attributes/elements can be selected at the same time

  • Selected node metadata attributes/elements are added as a pill to the chat input box

  • If two node metadata attributes/elements are added to the chat input box and the user selects a third, the first pill is removed from the chat input box

De-selecting metadata

  • De-selecting node metadata attributes/elements removes the node’s yellow colour

  • De-selecting node metadata attributes/elements removes its pill from the chat input box
